Theme Leaders in the Seafood CRC

Theme Leaders help the Seafood CRC's Program Managers to plan and review projects and help deliver outcomes and outputs.

Our Theme Leaders are:

Program 1 - Production Innovation

Theme Leader 1 - FinFish

Dr Geoff Allan is the Theme Leader for the theme business plan "FinFish" and is reponsible with Dr Graham Mair for consultation and implementation of projects within this theme as well as coordinating the Seafood CRC Aquaculture Innovation Production Hub. Geoff is from Industry and Investment, New South Wales.

 

Theme Leader 2 - Breeding for Profit

Dr Nick Robinson is the Theme Leader for the Breeding for Profit theme business plan and with Dr Graham Mair is responsible for consultation and implementation of projects with industry. Nick is affiliated to Flinders University.

 

Theme Leader 3 - Future Harvest

Dr Caleb Gardner is the Theme Leader for the Future Harvest theme business plan and with Dr Graham Mair is responsible for consultation and implementation of projects with industry that fit within the fisheries management theme. caleb is from the University of Tasmania.

Theme Leader 4 - Commercial Market Development

Paul Graham the Theme Leader for commercial market development and is reponsible with Jayne Gallagher for the consultation and implementation of projects with industry that fit within the retail transformation theme (SellFish). Paul is the Director of Market Strategy Innovation.

Theme Leader 5 - Higher Education

Associate Professor Tom Ross has extensive experience in teaching and student supervision in the University of Tasmania, School of Agricultural Sciences, has published approximately 80 scientific papers and book chapters and has supervised or co-supervised 14 PhD and MSc graduates making him the perfect Theme Leader for the A,B, Sea Theme Business Plan with Emily Mantilla.

Theme Leader 6 - Higher Education

Professor Mark Tamplin is the Director of the Tasmanian Institute for Agricultural Research Food Safety Centre and over his career he has supervised 31 PhD and MSc completions.  Currently, he supervises two CRC PhD students and two Honours students.

As well as receiving numerous awards such as gold medallist for Achievement for Outstanding Public Health, outstanding researcher award for the United States Food and Drug Administration and the Sigma XI research award, Mark has collectively secured research funding in excess of USD$11.4 million dollars.

Mark's role is to provide 'back up support' for Tom Ross and to help Emily Mantilla administer the Higher Education projects as part of the A,B, Sea theme business plan.

Theme Leader 7 - Industry Skills Development

Roy Palmer is super passionate about industry training and so the Australian Seafood Cooperative Research is proud to have him as Theme Leader for Program 3 working with Emily Mantilla on the A,B, Sea theme business plan.

As Chairman of the Australian Fish Names Committee, Roy and his team were responsible for getting the Australian Fish Names Standards recognised as an official standard in Australia. This was by no means an easy task.

Roy also has extensive experience in the Australian seafood industry having undertaken positions in exporting, importing and trading, retail, processing and wholesale.
