Matthew has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Adelaide where he majored in marine biology. In 2010, Matthew will commence his Honours year the University of Adelaide and the Seafood CRC where he will look at the effects of feeding alternative protein sources on the intestinal mucus layer and mucosal architecture in Yellowtail Kingfish. back to top> ____________________________________________________ |

* COMPLETED STUDENT Kerri completed her Honours thesis in 2009 where she was enrolled at Curtin University. Her project focused on the development of new, novel products from Blue Swimmer Crab. She worked with Abacus Fisheries, a progressive, regional company specialising in the production and processing of Blue Swimmer Crabs. The company had developed techniques for extracting crab meat in large pieces for the fine dining market and extracting the balance of the meat from the carcass as a paste for further processing. Kerri's role was to develop from crab paste and by-products a novel new product. Her project focused on extensive product development work along with consumer acceptability trials. ___________________________________________________ |

Geoff has a Bachelor of Technology (Aquaculture) from Flinders University and a Diploma of the Seafood Industry (Aquaculture) from TAFE South Australia. In 2010, Geoff will study the effect of temperature and plant protein inclusion on the growth factor gene expression in Yellowtail Kingfish. ___________________________________________________ |

Nicole joins the Seafood CRC Honours program all the way from Germany where she will begin her Honours year in 2010. Nicole will be looking at how Australia’s aquaculture competitiveness can be sustained by developing new technological advantages in genetics. In other words she is going to investigate functional genes for commercial traits. __________________________________________________ |

Joel has a Degree of Bachelor of Technology (Aquaculture) from Flinders University and in 2008 was awarded the Chancellor's Letter of Commendation for excellence in academia. Joel's Honours project is investigating the impact of acid sulfate soils on the survival of adult Pacific Oysters (Crassostrea gigas) challenged by bacterial extracellular products. _____________________________________________________ |

Ying Ying looked at the role of Kiss1/Kiss1r system in controlling the puberty in Yellowtail Kingfish and Southern Bluefin Tuna. ___________________________________________________ |

Kopano began his Honours Degree with the Seafood CRC and Flinders University. Kopano holds a Bachelor of Biotechnology from the University of Botswana, Africa. Kopano's project is investigating Yellowtail Kingfish growth response, flesh quality and PUFA content through biorefinery microalgae LC-PUFA aqua-feed additives. ___________________________________________________ |

Chelsey will commence her Honours Degree with the Seafood CRC and the University of the Sunshine Coast in 2010. Chelsey has a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Communication, Japanese and International Business. In 2009 she received the Dean’s Commendation for excellence in academic achievement. Chelsey's project will look at the factors that impact on the export performance of small and medium sized Australian seafood producers. ____________________________________________________ |

Nathan has a Bachelor of Science from Flinders University and in 2010 will start his Honours Degree at the Seafood CRC and Flinders University. Nathan's Honours project will look at the impact of fish oil replacement on the expression of antioxidant genes and genes involved in the synthesis of highly unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids in Yellowtail Kingfish liver and muscle tissue. ____________________________________________________ |

Daniel as a Bachelor of Science in Aquaculture from Flinders University and has worked for a variety of aquaculture organisations which include Temasek Polytechnic in Singapore, Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority in Singapore. Closer to home, Dan has worked as an Aquaculture research assistant at Flinders University and as a farm hand at a marron farm and at Australian Seafood Pty Ltd. Daniel's Honours project will look at the impact of commercial hatchery practices on the contribution of broodstock to offspring and genetic diversity in Yellowtail Kingfish breeding programs. |
